Martin qualified fifth for Friday’s race.
Despite early cautions, Martin held strong
and was battling for the lead when a tire
issue took him out of contention. Martin qualified
third for Saturday’s race, and he again nearly
took the top spot, but finished a close second.
“The car ran well and the Bikeman Tune is
on point,” said Martin. “It made plenty of
power all weekend. It felt good to get back
on the podium. We got the suspension dialed
in and the car ran flawlessly.”
Weather has been a difficult factor this
season and both practice sessions were rained
out during the weekend. Similar weather at
the first event has forced Martin to use qualifying
and race sessions for R&D on his brand
new car. Despite the difficulties, he and
his Bikeman team have weathered the storms,
“It has been a lot of work to get the car
dialed in,” said Martin. “We haven’t had one
practice session due to rain so we’ve been
doing our R&D in qualifying and the races.
I think we have a handle on it now and we’re
looking forward to Bark River.”
Martin will be back up front as the Lucas
Oil Midwest Short Course League heads north
to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the next
race at Bark River International Raceway.
That event is scheduled for August 10-12.
