Casper, WY (1/5/2018) -
Can-Am Driven Powersports’ rider Don Higbee
has the Pro ATV Championship in his sights
as he returns to the Best in the Desert Series
this season on his proven Can-Am Outlander
1000R. Higbee will team up with Jose Torres,
Dofo Arellano and Felipe Velez for an all-out
assault on the BITD title.
Higbee ran a super competitive 2017 season
in BITD, competing with East Coast racers
Rick Cecco and Bryan Buckhannon, as well as
Jose Torres and Jeremy Gray. The team finished
out 2017 with a victory at the Tonopah 250
and just missed the championship.
“In BITD, we won the Tonopah race in October
and again just missed the championship by
two points,” said Higbee. “We had a great
mix of riders with great attitudes and strong
work ethics. They really stepped up and that
was huge part of our success. I couldn’t have
done it in 2017 without my teammates. We had
a blast last year, a lot of laughs and a lot

Higbee continues his relationship with Can-Am,
as well as Driven Powersports, and David Jesse
Racing. Lead mechanic Dave Osborne will again
lead the team in the pits. Higbee thinks the
two new riders will bring an unprecedented
edge to the team this season.
“The Can-Am Outlander 1000R is a great platform
and it proved last year that it can win races,”
said Higbee. “Dofo and Felipe are coming up
from Baja to run with us. It will be their
first time on a 4X4 and they are super excited.
We’re bringing two of the fastest desert racers
in the world onto the team and that should
add to our competitive edge.”
Higbee is focusing most of his time on BITD
this season. Unfortunately, SCORE and BITD
have overlapping schedules, so the team isn’t
able to run both championships. However, Higbee
is planning to run select SCORE races, including
an Iron Man effort at the Baja 1000.
“We’re focused on BITD this year,” said Higbee.
“We’d like to find a way to do the beach race
and I’d envision doing an Iron Man at the
Baja 1000. I’ve done it once. It would be
really great if a few more 4X4 factory teams
would field a rider to line up for that race.”
The team is preparing for the Parker 250
this weekend in Parker, AZ. Higbee said the
team is ready to start out the 2018 BITD season
with a strong finish.
“We’re ready to go this weekend,” said Higbee.
“We have a fresh build underneath us and we’ve
proven that this Can-Am Outlander 1000R is
ultra competitive with the sport bikes. We’re
really the only ones out there running a 4X4
quad and we’re running up front. That’s a
testament to the engineering Can-Am puts into
